This course is geared towards law enforcement related background investigations but is applicable to anyone conducting professional background investigations. This course is open to both law enforcement employees and non-law enforcement background investigators.
Course Description:
This course is specifically designed to equip police employment background investigators with the skills and strategies to effectively utilize open-source intelligence (OSINT) and social media in their investigations. Participants will learn how to gather, analyze, and verify publicly available digital information to assess candidates' backgrounds while adhering to legal and ethical guidelines.
Through hands-on exercises, real-world case studies, and expert-led instruction, investigators will gain proficiency in:
- Navigating and extracting information from various social media platforms
- Utilizing advanced search techniques and OSINT tools to uncover relevant data
- Assessing digital footprints for potential red flags and risk factors
- Ensuring compliance with legal and privacy regulations
- Documenting and reporting findings in a structured, professional manner
By the end of the course, participants will be able to conduct thorough and ethical digital investigations, enhancing their ability to make informed hiring decisions.
